THURSDAY, OCTOBER 14

We have done many Italian themed wine tastings over the years. This season we invite you to explore the amazing and often overlooked wines from the Islands of Sicily and Sardinia with Michael Pare of the L’eft Bank Wine Company. The Islands host a number of indigenous wine grape varieties that are wonderfully unique. Michael is excited to share his favorite selections from these areas.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 11

Explore the wines of the Rhone with Tom Loup of Vino Veritas. The wines of the Rhone are uniquely divided between North and South. Wine from the North is almost exclusively dedicated to the powerful Syrah based wines of Cornas, Hermitage, and Cote-Rotie. In the North Viognier is the dominant white, often blended into the reds, and producing Condrieu on its own.
In the warmer Southern Rhone Grenache is prominent, the region is home to many other red and white wine varieties producing everyday Cote-du-Rhone, rose, aromatic whites, and the classic wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Rasteau, and Tavel.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9

Gary Binter was last with us for Duckhorn Family Wines tasting in March 2020 right before COVID hit. We are pleased to have him back to present wines from California’s Central Coast. This sprawling region stretches 250 miles south from San Francisco Bay to Santa Barbara County. The region contains some forty distinct AVA’s (American Viticultural Areas) including Paso Robles, Santa Cruz Mountains, Monterey, and Santa Barbara. There will be something for everyone at this tasting, for each of these sub-regions specializes in different types and expressions of wine. While the Central Coast does not carry the pedigree of Napa Valley, it does produce some of California’s most intriguing, up-and-coming wines. Gary is Director of Fine Wine for General Beverage Sales Co. and has been one of the Club’s favorite presenters over the past fifteen years.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 13

Tom Loup of Vino Veritas will join us to explore the storied and wonderfully varied fortified wines of Portugal, Spain, and the Island of Madiera. Members can enjoy special cheeses, fruits and chocolates to pair with the Ports, Sherries, and Madiera.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10

Explore the wines of France and California with Steven David of “Vie de Vin.” This tasting will focus on the five primary varieties of grapes used in Bordeaux-styled blends from California, and both the Right and Left Banks of Bordeaux.

First, we will taste through Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and perhaps a Petite Verdot on their own, then in the blends. Steven’s personal experience and education in France gives him priceless insight for this tasting.

THURSDAY, MARCH 10

Join Steele Cooper with Merryvale Vineyards & Starmont Winery as he presents a variety of their portfolio of wines. As the first winery production facility built after the repeal of prohibition, Merryvale occupies a unique place in the history of Napa Valley and California wine history. With roots dating back to the early days of fine wine production, Merryvale was the winemaking home to such luminaries as Robert and Peter Mondavi, the Christian Brothers, and H. William Harlan.

Merryvale’s proprietors, the Schlatters, are traditionalists with vision, committed to preserving the winery’s rich past while forging a path of winemaking innovation. Alongside Winemaker Andrew Wright they have sharpened their focus on Bordeaux varieties, the wines for which Napa is most renowned.

THURSDAY, APRIL 14

Join us for an end of season five-course dinner and presentation of German wines with Elke Brendel, German wine specialist with L’eft Bank Wine Company. Chef Adam and his team will craft a menu that highlights why Riesling is indeed the noblest of white grape varieties.
